This free, virtual event is packed with experts to help attendees better understand AI in the legal industry. Here’s a sneak peek at the agenda and what attendees can learn more about:

Keynote Speaker

Jordan Furlong is the Keynote Speaker for our AI event. He is the creator and CEO of Law21, a legal consulting firm. A known leader in the legal industry, Jordan focuses on both forecasting and analyzing trends within our industry while also assisting his clients in best practices in adapting to both industry changes and changes that make his clients more efficient and future-ready. AI and the State of Art

Very few AI legal issues are as abundantly covered as how AI impacts art now and how it may impact it in the future. If you’re interested in how AI and the laws intersect with the creative space, this session is for you. Dr. Megan Ma and Damien Riehl will speak. 

Dr. Megan Ma is the Assistant Director of CodeX: The Stanford Center for Legal Informatics, the AI Advisor for Pear VC, and the Managing Editor for MIT’s Computational Law publication. Dr. Ma’s PhD is in law. 

Damien Riehl is a lawyer, technologist, and speaker. He has spoken at TEDX Minneapolis, discussing music, math, copyrighting, and ethics. Damien is the VP, Solutions Champion for vLex, a legal tech AI company. 

AI and Ethics

What’s the first question many hold regarding AI and the legal profession? The answer: Is it ethical to use? While the ultimate answer lies within the rules of your jurisdiction, you’re in for a thought-provoking, eye-opening discussion regarding the ethical and legal issues regarding the use of artificial intelligence (ai) in the legal profession. 

This discussion is spearheaded by Jayne Reardon, Scott Koslov, and Sari Montgomery. 

Jayne Reardon is a respected and experienced ethics leader. She is a sought-after consultant, arbitrator, and mediator. Jayne recently joined FisherBroyles LLP as both a Partner and as Deputy General Counsel.

Scott Koslov is the Chief Ethics Officer and is the legal counsel for the Office of the Cook County Clerk. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law. 

Sari Montgomery is a Partner of Robinson, Stewart, Montgomery & Doppke LLC. She is an Adjunct Professor at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law. 

AI and Access to Justice

Interested in access to justice? Join Natalie Anne Knowlton, Sam Harden, and Amanda Brown for a riveting dive into how AI-driven legal services can help expand access to the entire legal system. 

Natalie Anne Knowlton is the Founder of Access to Justice Ventures. She was named an ABA Legal Rebel in 2023. Natalie was featured as a Legal Technology Resource Center Women of Legal Tech in 2022. 

Sam Harden is the Program Manager at Pro Bono Net. A lawyer and technologist, he is dedicated to using his gifts and skills to assist the public in getting the legal services they need. Sam is a Fastcase 50 recipient. 

Amanda Brown is a legal tech and access to justice enthusiast. She assists law firms and lawyers in adapting their legal services for better delivery. A former Fastcast 50 honoree, Amanda was also named as a Legal Technology Resource Center Women of Legal Tech.

AI and the Practice of Law

Can AI automating legal research and AI for legal documents benefit your law practice? Get an expert-led inside look at how AI affects the practice of law. This session is hosted by Carolyn Elefant, Catherine Sanders-Reach, and Josh Kubicki. 

Carolyn Elefant is the Founder and Owner of MyShingle and PowerUpLegal. She is a well-known and respected legal blogger. 

Catherine Sanders-Reach is the Director of Practice Management at the North Carolina Bar Association. She consults with lawyers in North Carolina to help them improve their practice management skills and techniques. Catherine also writes, teaches, and speaks about various law practice management subjects. Previously, Catherine was the Director of Law Practice Management & Technology for The Chicago Bar Association. 

Josh Kubicki is a legal executive leader, innovator, entrepreneur, and professor. He is the program designer and architect for CLOC’s LIO Project. He is the former Director of an award-winning legal innovation and entrepreneurship program at Richmond Law School. Josh received the 2022 Innovation By Design award from Fast Company. As of January 2024, he has taught more than 700 attorneys about the pragmatic use of generative AI. Josh’s twice-weekly newsletter, Brainyacts, has over 3500 subscribers learning more about how they can practically apply AI in their practice. 

AI and Education

You’ve heard about, and hopefully read, about how AI is used, banned, or even taught in colleges and law schools. Hosted by Cat Moon, Nicole Morris, and Dennis Kennedy, you’ll learn more about this riveting topic. 

Cat Moon is the Founding Co-Director of the Vanderbilt AI + Law Lab and the Director of Innovation Design. She is a seasoned professor and lecturer with additional experience designing curricula related to innovation of the legal industry and its services. Cat is also an Instructor at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for Radiology and Radiological Services. She is the Founder of Ledger.Law and a Co-Founder of the American Legal Technology Awards

Nicole Morris is the Director of Innovation & Legal Tech at Emory Law. She is also the Director of Technological Innovation: Generating Economic Results (TI:GER). In 2013, Nicole received the Rising Star Award from the Association of Corporate Counsel, Georgia Chapter, on behalf of her work with The Coca-Cola Company. 

Dennis Kennedy is the Director for the Center for Law, Technology, & Innovation at Michigan State University College of Law. He is a sought-after keynote speaker regarding transformative innovation for law departments. Dennis is also an Adjunct Professor. He is the President and General Counsel of Dennis Kennedy Advisory Services, LLC. Dennis is the Co-Host of The Kennedy-Mighell Report Podcast. 

AI and the Business of Law

Last, but certainly not least, Patrick Palace, Mitch Jackson, and James Peters lead an engaging and educational session on AI and the business of law. Will AI in the legal industry truly affect how you run your law practice? Make plans to watch this session! 

Patrick Palace owns Palace Law and Palace Personal Injury Law Group.  He is the former President of the Washington State Bar Association. Currently, Patrick serves as the Treasurer of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. He is a 2023 ABA Legal Rebel and a Co-Founder of the American Legal Technology Awards

Mitch Jackson is a practicing attorney who was named 2013 California Litigation Lawyer of the Year and 200 Orange County California Trial Lawyer of the Year. He is the Founding Partner of Maneuver Mediation which uses video mediation services to assist in conflict resolution. A sought-after speaker and writer, Mitch discusses how lawyers can use tech and digital spaces to build their brand, better communicate with others, and improve their negotiation skills. He’s also a co-author of six books. Mitch has also presented at Tony Robbins Business Mastery events. 

James Peters is a Fellow and Head of Legal Innovation for LZ Legal Services, LLC. He is the former Vice President of New Market Initiatives for Legal Zoom. James is a Subject Matter Expert and Practitioner Mentor for LawWithoutWalls.
